MIRA Publishes List of Large Taxpayers Who Failed to File Income Tax Returns

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has published a list of individuals and companies who have failed to submit their income tax returns for the previous year. These entities are classified as large taxpayers, with annual incomes exceeding MVR 200 million, inclusive of their associates’ earnings.

The deadline for filing last year’s income tax return was 30th June. According to MIRA, the agency made multiple attempts to remind taxpayers of their obligations before publicising the list. This included sending reminders via email, SMS, and phone calls. Taxpayers were also urged to comply with the law, and were warned of penalties for non-compliance.

MIRA has reiterated its commitment to taking stringent action in accordance with its enforcement policy to recover unpaid taxes and other amounts owed without discrimination. Taxpayers who are yet to file or pay their taxes have been encouraged to do so immediately to avoid further penalties. The names of compliant taxpayers will be removed from the list of non-filers once they meet their tax obligations.

As MIRA continues to implement its enforcement measures, the agency remains firm in its efforts to ensure compliance and maintain fairness in tax collection across the country.
