Addu City Council has opened invitations for investors to develop a 45-room city hotel in Feydhoo, located in the Dhigihera Tourism Zone (S4), as part of its strategy to boost tourism and economic growth in the southern atoll.
The proposed hotel will occupy newly reclaimed land on the western side of Feydhoo, situated opposite Savaaheli Island and just two kilometres from Addu International Airport. This strategic location, part of a recently reclaimed area, positions the hotel as a convenient option for both international visitors arriving at Addu International Airport and tourists seeking accessible accommodation close to city amenities.
Investors interested in developing this project may collect detailed bidding information from the Addu City Council from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm until the specified deadline. The project aims not only to expand the city’s tourism capacity but also to create substantial employment opportunities, addressing youth unemployment issues and invigorating Addu’s local economy through increased private sector investment.
The city hotel development is part of broader efforts by the Addu City Council to enhance local tourism offerings and reduce economic vulnerabilities. Currently, Addu operates three resorts and has further ambitious tourism projects lined up, including developments in dedicated tourism zones and newly reclaimed islands intended specifically for tourism activities.
Additionally, the government’s ongoing Hankede Integrated Tourism Project and a planned coastal tourism initiative underscore Addu City’s drive towards becoming a vibrant regional tourism hub.
This city hotel initiative represents an essential element in Addu City’s strategic goal of enhancing private sector investment, creating employment opportunities, and promoting sustainable economic growth, especially among the youth. It demonstrates the city’s commitment to diversifying and stimulating its local economy through targeted private-sector engagement in tourism development.
