The clarification came in response to local media coverage and social media posts claiming that Singapore had urged its citizens to avoid travel to the Maldives unless necessary. According to the Ministry, the Singaporean authorities have confirmed that no travel advisory of this nature has been issued.
Officials noted that the statement circulating online is not a recent appeal and does not reflect Singapore’s current position on travel to the Maldives.
The Ministry also cautioned against the spread of misinformation involving countries with strong diplomatic relations with the Maldives, warning that such actions could have broader implications for public perception and the national economy. In this regard, it called on the public to be responsible in sharing information and avoid promoting misleading narratives, especially those that may strain ties with friendly nations.
