Tourism and Environment Ministry Hosts Power BI Training to Boost Climate Data Skills

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has concluded a one-day training programme focused on climate and energy data visualisation using Microsoft Power BI. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen climate data transparency and analytical capabilities across the Maldives.

Conducted under the CBIT Maldives Project—Capacity Strengthening for Improved Transparency of Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Actions in the Maldives—the training was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

A total of 32 participants from a diverse range of public and private institutions took part in the session. Attendees included representatives from the Ministry itself, as well as officials from the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Utility Regulatory Authority (URA), Maldives Airports Company Limited, Maldives Police Service, Housing Development Corporation, MWSC, FENAKA, STELCO, Dhiraagu, and other private sector entities.

The training, delivered by Riyan Private Limited in partnership with Grant Thornton Bharat LLP, focused on practical applications of Power BI in climate and energy data management. Participants learned how to navigate the Power BI interface, connect and clean data sources, build dashboards, and apply visualisation techniques aligned with national climate reporting needs.

At the closing ceremony, Minister of State for Tourism and Environment H.E. Ibrahim Mimrah awarded certificates to participants. In his remarks, he commended the participants for their engagement and expressed appreciation for their dedication throughout the session. He emphasised that the training offered a strong foundation in data visualisation, and expressed hope that these new skills would enhance how institutions track, interpret, and communicate climate and energy data—ultimately supporting improved planning, transparency, and climate action in the Maldives.
