The Maldives and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) are exploring avenues to strengthen their development partnership, following a meeting held in Malé between senior officials from both sides.
Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer met with ADFD Director General Mohammed Saif Al-Suwaidi at the Ministry of Finance on Sunday to discuss enhanced cooperation, particularly in the context of ongoing infrastructure projects. The meeting focused on ways to deepen development ties and expand the scope of collaboration.
The ADFD has played a key role in supporting major infrastructure developments in the Maldives, most notably the Velana International Airport (VIA) expansion project. In December 2024, the fund extended a concessional loan of USD 40 million to assist in the project’s completion. This followed an earlier loan of USD 50 million provided in 2017 for the same purpose.
The discussions signal a continued commitment by both parties to furthering cooperation in infrastructure and development financing, as the Maldives continues to seek external assistance for large-scale national projects.
