Maldivian Unveils New Engineering Facility at Velana International Airport

Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has inaugurated a new Engineering Service Building at Velana International Airport, marking a major upgrade in the airline’s operational infrastructure. The new facility was officially opened on 6th July 2025 during a ceremony attended by the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Captain Mohamed Ameen, and the Chairman of the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, Abdul Haris, alongside senior figures from Maldivian and other key stakeholders.

The purpose-built facility is designed to centralise several critical technical and engineering functions, including storage of aircraft spare parts, and offices for Continuing Airworthiness Management (CAMO), Quality, Safety & Security, and Materials Management. The integration of these departments under one roof is expected to improve coordination, streamline processes, and enhance operational efficiency.

A major section of the new building has been allocated for aircraft spare parts, creating a centralised hub to support engineering logistics and inventory management. This setup aims to ensure faster maintenance turnaround times and improve fleet availability.

In honour of the late Ali Firag, former Director of Engineering at Maldivian, the building has been named after him in recognition of his contributions to the airline and the broader aviation community in the Maldives.

This development comes in the wake of Maldivian receiving EASA Part 145 certification earlier this year, reinforcing the airline’s adherence to internationally recognised safety and maintenance standards. Maldivian also provides line maintenance services to other airlines operating in the Maldives, further underlining its technical capabilities.

The opening of the new engineering facility represents a long-term investment by the airline to enhance reliability and maintain excellence in aviation operations.
