Maldivian Launches Seasonal Flights from Shenzhen to Malé via Bangkok

Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has launched a seasonal flight service connecting Shenzhen, China, to Malé via Bangkok, marking a notable step in its international expansion strategy. The inaugural flight, which arrived in the Maldives on 9 July 2025, operated with a load factor of over 95 percent, reflecting strong demand for travel between the two countries.

The new route, served by Maldivian’s Airbus A320 aircraft, is part of the airline’s broader commitment to enhancing connectivity with China, a key tourism source market for the Maldives. This seasonal service offers travellers from southern China more convenient access to the Maldives’ luxury resorts and beaches during the peak travel period.

This addition builds on Maldivian’s existing operations to China, which include regular non-stop flights to Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu using its Airbus A330-200 wide-body aircraft. The Shenzhen route is expected to further strengthen tourism links and support efforts to diversify inbound markets.

The airline highlighted the efficiency of the Airbus A320 in delivering a comfortable and reliable service for this seasonal operation. Maldivian also reaffirmed its dedication to offering authentic hospitality while meeting the growing demand from Chinese leisure travellers.

As tourism remains central to the Maldives’ economy, enhanced air connectivity is expected to play a vital role in sustaining momentum in visitor arrivals from key international markets.
