Villa College Hosts Oath-Taking and White Coat Ceremony for Aspiring Healthcare Professionals

Villa College’s Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) held its annual Oath-Taking and White Coat Ceremony on 13 July 2025, marking a significant milestone for its nursing and pharmacy students as they formally step into the healthcare profession. The event celebrated academic achievement and symbolised the students’ commitment to uphold the ethical and professional responsibilities required in their chosen fields.

The ceremony began with the symbolic presentation of white coats to Bachelor of Pharmacy students, a tradition introduced in the Maldives by Villa College. This moment represents the students’ transition into professional practice and the trust placed in them as future healthcare providers.

A highlight of the event was the oath-taking of 98 students enrolled in the Certificate IV in Nursing programme. The oath was administered by Brigadier General Dr. Ali Shahid, President of the Maldives Medical and Dental Council, reinforcing the students’ pledge to deliver care with integrity and uphold the highest ethical standards throughout their careers.

Minister of State for Health, Khadheeja Abdul Samad, attended the event as Chief Guest. She congratulated the students on their achievements and emphasised the responsibility they now carry as future healthcare professionals. She also acknowledged the role of Villa College in preparing a competent and compassionate health workforce for the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ali Najeeb, reflected on the importance of the day. He described the white coat as a mantle of trust and the oath as a guiding moral framework. He highlighted the expectation for Villa College graduates to serve as role models of professionalism and ethical conduct.

The event also included the presentation of Dean’s List certificates and Dean’s Awards to recognise academic excellence. In addition, the newly formed Villa College Health Society was officially inaugurated, with its Executive Council appointed. The society aims to encourage leadership, collaboration, and student-led initiatives within the faculty.

Villa College reaffirmed its commitment to producing healthcare professionals who are not only technically skilled but also grounded in empathy and ethical responsibility. The graduates are now ready to contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of the Maldivian community.
