President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended a welcome banquet hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan in Tianjin. The event took place at the Tianjin Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Centre and was held in honour of visiting Heads of State, Government leaders, and representatives of international organisations participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.
President Muizzu is in China on an official visit at the invitation of President Xi to attend the summit. This marks his second visit to the country since assuming office in November 2023, reflecting the strengthening relationship between the Maldives and China.
The SCO, established in 2001, is a regional platform aimed at enhancing political, economic and security cooperation across Eurasia. It provides its members and partners with avenues to engage on shared challenges and strategic priorities, while also promoting dialogue among nations with diverse interests.
