Recognition of both emerging talent and long-serving professionals took centre stage at the Hotelier Maldives Awards 2026, highlighting the breadth of skills and experience sustaining the country’s tourism industry.
Held at NIVA Kurumba Maldives, the annual event marked its third edition and continues to serve as the only national platform dedicated to recognising resort employees across operational, technical, and leadership roles.
The awards covered a wide range of individual and team categories spanning guest services, engineering, finance, marketing, and sustainability, reflecting the complexity of resort operations. Among the individual honours, Mayuree Khamnonmuang was named Wellness Personality of the Year, while Aminath Malsa Shiyam received recognition in guest services. Chef of the Year was awarded to Christian Christoffer Pedersen, who also received a special recognition for his broader contribution to culinary operations.
Senior leadership categories saw TJ Joulak named General Manager of the Year, while Hassan Saeed was recognised as Resort Manager of the Year. Team-based awards highlighted cross-department collaboration and operational performance, with JOALI Maldives named Hotel Team of the Year and Aitken Spence Hotels recognised for sales and marketing.
Beyond individual and team achievements, the awards also placed emphasis on long-term contributions to the industry. Four tourism professionals were honoured with Dedicated Service Awards, recognising careers that span decades and reflect the evolution of Maldivian tourism.
The recipients included Adam Saeed of Bandos Maldives, Mohamed Waheed of Equator Village, Mohamed Naeem of Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru, and Abdul Samad Ibrahim of Club Med Maldives. Each was recognised for sustained service across areas such as human resources, resort management, operations, and administration.
Their careers collectively trace the development of the sector, from early resort operations to the current model of internationally branded, service-driven hospitality. Contributions highlighted ranged from workforce management and compliance to leadership roles in resort operations and community engagement.
The awards were presented by Bestbuy Maldives, with participation from a range of corporate partners across telecommunications, banking, aviation, and logistics.
The event reflects a broader effort within the industry to formalise recognition of both performance and longevity, at a time when the tourism sector continues to expand in scale and complexity.
