BML Signs MoU with Singapore Management University to Expand Staff Development

Bank of Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore Management University to expand its work on leadership development, professional education and capacity building.

The agreement builds on the existing collaboration between BML Academy, the bank’s institute for academic and professional development, and SMU Academy, the professional training arm of Singapore Management University. Through the partnership, SMU will help design and deliver tailored learning programmes for BML employees, while also supporting structured knowledge transfer to develop internal expertise within the bank.

The partnership is expected to strengthen BML Academy’s capacity to offer more structured development opportunities for employees and create clearer pathways for professional advancement. For BML, the agreement also reflects a wider focus on staff development as the bank continues to modernise its operations and improve banking services.

BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef said the partnership forms part of the bank’s commitment to developing its leadership pipeline and improving professional capabilities across the organisation. He said BML Academy is working to build internationally aligned learning pathways for future leaders in the financial sector.

The bank’s collaboration with SMU has already included leadership programmes for 40 BML employees. According to BML, 20 senior staff completed the Executive Certificate in Leadership and People Management directly from SMU, while another 20 employees received the Certificate in Leadership and People Management through BML Academy after completing an SMU-led programme.
