
Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam departed for an official visit to the People’s Republic of China on Wednesday to attend the 7th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum in Kunming, Yunnan Province.
The three-day visit, which concludes on Friday, will see the Minister participate in the opening ceremony of the forum and deliver a keynote address. She is also scheduled to attend the 10th China-South Asia Expo, one of the region’s major platforms for economic and trade cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Iruthisham will hold meetings with senior officials of the People’s Government of Yunnan Province during the visit. She is also expected to meet Maldivian students studying in Yunnan.
Before departing for China, Minister Iruthisham said the visit would be her first official trip to the country. She noted that she would attend the 7th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum and the 10th China-South Asia Expo in Kunming, expressing optimism that the engagements would help strengthen dialogue and further enhance the close bilateral relationship between the Maldives and China.
The visit comes as the Maldives and China continue to expand cooperation across a range of sectors, including trade, investment, infrastructure and people-to-people exchanges.
Minister Iruthisham is accompanied by Additional Secretary Amin Javed Faizal and Director Maryam Bassama Farooq from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
