Bangkok Airways has suspended its direct flights between Thailand and the Maldives for the remainder of the year, according to tourism industry representatives.

The suspension was disclosed by Inner Maldives President Mohamed Firaq, who said the airline had halted its Maldives operations despite being an important contributor to the country’s tourism sector.

In a post on X, Firaq said Bangkok Airways brings more than 2,000 tourists to the Maldives each month. He expressed hope that the airline would resume services by next summer.

Firaq later confirmed that Bangkok Airways will not operate flights to the Maldives during the rest of this year. However, he suggested that the situation could change with stronger promotional efforts aimed at supporting the route and maintaining demand.

He also indicated that route sustainability depends on balancing operational costs and incentives, noting that airlines face challenges when expenses are not sufficiently offset.

Bangkok Airways has not yet issued an official statement regarding the suspension of its Maldives services.

The development comes amid previous adjustments to air connectivity between the Maldives and key source markets. In May last year, Air India suspended flights between New Delhi and Malé until August.
