
Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Japanese Ambassador Ishigami Rumiko held discussions in Malé on Thursday, reaffirming the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the Maldives and Japan.
The leaders reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and explored opportunities to further strengthen cooperation as both countries prepare to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations next year.
During the meeting at the President’s Office, the Vice President expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued support across key development sectors, including human resource development, infrastructure, education, sports cooperation, climate resilience, disaster management and community development programmes. He also welcomed growing people-to-people exchanges and highlighted the potential to expand collaboration in tourism and economic development.
Both sides discussed ways to deepen engagement in areas of mutual interest and reiterated their commitment to strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
