Maldives and Saudi Arabia Discuss Counter-Terrorism Cooperation

Maldives and Saudi Arabia have held discussions on strengthening defence cooperation, with both sides reviewing existing ties and areas for further collaboration in regional security.

The talks took place during Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed’s visit to Saudi Arabia, which was made at the invitation of Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to expand cooperation in the defence sector. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments, including efforts to support security and stability in the region.

The visit also included a meeting between Minister Rasheed and Major General Abdullah bin Hamid al-Quraishi, Deputy Military Commander of Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition.

Their discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism, expanding joint exercises and enhancing technical capabilities between the two sides.

The engagements reflect continued defence and security dialogue between Maldives and Saudi Arabia, particularly in areas linked to regional stability, counter-terrorism and capacity development.
