The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has partnered with the SME Development and Finance Corporation (SDFC) to launch a grant scheme exceeding MVR 15 million to support farmers in the Maldives. The funding is part of a matching grant initiative under the Maldives Agribusiness Programme (MAP), a collaborative project with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The ‘Agribusiness Matching Grant Programme’ targets farmers and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in agricultural activity within the Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani atolls. These areas are specifically included in the MAP project, which provides financial assistance, training, and information resources to farmers across 26 islands.
The Ministry has stated that a key objective of the project is to encourage the adoption of modern technology in agricultural practices.
