America and UNICEF Provides MVR 11.5 Million to Maldives

America in association with UNICEF provided MVR 11.5 million to Maldives. This was initiated with an agenda to protect and prepare public places and schools for opening.

Schools in the Greater Male’ Area has been suspended for further two weeks til the 19th of August as a safety measure to control the spread of COVID-19. Although, some common places are open for business with no means of protection against the virus. Hence to solve this issue, America has provided USD 750,000 (MVR 11.5 Million) in association with UNICEF.

The ambassador to Maldives from America, Alaina Teplitz stated the United States has been providing assistance to different countries affected by the global pandemic.

The grant provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will be used to provide clean water and commodities to maintain hygiene for children, parents, and teachers when the schools re-open. This will be carried out by the government with the assistance of UNICEF.

Dr. M. Munir A. Safieldinm, UNICEF Representative to the Maldives, has expressed his gratitude on behalf of Maldives for the help provided to the country by America. He highlighted that this aid was provided at the right time as the government is putting efforts right now, into controlling the spread for the virus and to ease lockdown for the re-opening of educational institutions in the country.
