BCC Launches ‘Hiyala Market’ to Empower Women Entrepreneurs

The Business Center Corporation (BCC) of the Maldives has recently opened applications for renting kiosks at the Hulhumale “Hiyala Weekend Market”. This move is part of the government’s 14-week roadmap aimed at creating a special marketplace in Hulhumale.

The “Hiyala Weekend Market”, envisaged as a vibrant venue for local commerce, is geared towards empowering women entrepreneurs by providing them with a dedicated space to showcase and sell their products. The market is scheduled to operate every Friday and Saturday from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, offering a unique shopping experience under the initiative.

The market features ten kiosks, each measuring 64 square feet, available for rent at MVR 300 for two days. This market provides a unique platform for Maldivian women entrepreneurs aged 18 and above, aiming to empower them by offering an affordable space to showcase and sell their products.

Prospective participants interested in securing a spot in the market can do so by submitting their application forms to the BCC. The allocation of kiosks will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis, with selections made weekly based on the order of registration.

The BCC has stated that the registration for these kiosks will remain open until further notice, allowing ample opportunity for vendors to join this new market endeavour.

This initiative marks a significant step in supporting local businesses and promoting female entrepreneurship in the Maldives, aligning with broader efforts to enhance economic opportunities within the community.
