Bids are now open for the construction of 15 multi-storey parking complexes in Hulhumalé, with contractors required to submit their proposals by 16th September.
This initiative aims to tackle the ongoing parking crisis in Malé City by providing secure and organised parking options. The proposed facilities will include both rental spaces and designated areas for visitor parking.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has urged contractors to submit their Expressions of Interest (EOI), noting that while various project models are welcome, those proposing an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Finance (EPCF) approach will be prioritised. In the case of multiple submissions, the contract will be awarded to the bidder with the most advantageous proposal.
The planned parking complexes are expected to collectively accommodate 4,000 vehicles, and construction is anticipated to be completed within two to three years under a business model framework. HDC also specified that these facilities are intended exclusively for registered vehicles.
As part of broader efforts to alleviate parking pressures in the Greater Malé Region, the government is also implementing measures such as restricting vehicle imports, imposing age limits on vehicles, and designating official parking zones.
