For the first time, the flag carrier of the UK, British Airways will be commencing scheduled flights to the Maldives next year.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated that next year British Airways will be commencing scheduled flights to the Maldives, unlike the current arrangement of seasonal flights. Currently, only seasonal flights are operated by British Airways to the Maldives during the winter season.
It is expected for the airlines to fly throughout the next year.
The UK market has always been a sturdy market to the Maldives and held a strong presence throughout the history of tourism in the Maldives. Ranking in 3rd place this year with a 10.8% market share, arrivals from the UK improved when British Airways resumed direct flights to the Maldives. Over 170,000 tourists from the UK have arrived in the Maldives so far this year.
