Maldives Immigration will require advance information on passengers travelling into and out of the country by air under new rules intended to strengthen security screening.
Aircraft operators and other responsible parties must submit traveller information before a flight arrives in or departs from the Maldives. The requirements apply to aircraft owners, charterers, agents and captains, as well as others responsible for the aircraft.
The information includes flight schedules and passenger numbers, along with travellers’ names, nationalities, gender and passport or equivalent document numbers. Seat numbers, baggage and visa details, permanent addresses and destination addresses must also be provided.
Immigration says the information will help authorities identify, before entry, people suspected of involvement in serious or organised crime, members of terrorist organisations and those reported to have links to such groups. The regulation also permits the information to be used for national security, law enforcement and the Maldives’ obligations under air transport conventions.
The information may be shared with Customs and, where circumstances require it, an agency responsible for terrorism-related intelligence. The regulation requires the information provided to Immigration to be kept confidential.
Violations carry a fine of MVR 2,000. The regulation takes effect on 30 October 2026.
