Dhiraagu and Ooredoo have joined a multi-party agreement with Dialog Axiata Plc to connect the Maldives to Sri Lanka through a second fibre optic submarine cable. The contract was signed on 30th January 2020.
While Dhiraagu will be spending USD 8.4 million, Ooredoo will be spending USD 9 million for the project. Dhiraagu will own 45% of the Maldives Sri Lanka cable. The other parties to the system are Dialog Axiata Plc (10%) and Ooredoo Maldives Plc (45%).
Once Maldives Sri Lanka Cable is completed, it will strengthen international diversity, increase international bandwidth and improve reliability.
