Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives have commenced “Girls in Data” program, the first data literacy initiative in Maldives targeted to girls.
Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives welcomed the newly enrolled students and a special orientation session was held last Wednesday night at Dhiraagu Head Office. The programme is structured to equip participants with skills on collecting, interpreting and deriving conclusions from data. Additionally, it will allow them to learn data skills through real life examples and the programme includes field trips to expose them to how some data intensive organisations’ in Maldives utilise their data. It is a 1.5 months long program consisting of 14 sessions aimed for girls from Grade 5 to 7 (aged 10 to 13) with the objective to inspire girls towards STEM careers from a young age.
The objective of conducting this program is to equip the next generation of girls to use data skills to understand the world better and ultimately bring positive changes to the community.
In addition to Girls in Data, Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives, have also been conducting a programme series called Girls to Code, aimed to teach coding to girls across Maldives with the shared objective to inspire and encourage girls to join technology fields.
