Dhiraagu Signs with HDC to Allocate Land for Landing Station of SEA-ME-WE-6 Submarine Cable System

Dhiraagu has secured the lease land in Hulhumale’ for establishing the landing station to connect the Maldives to the global super high-way SEA-ME-WE 6 Submarine cable system. 

Earlier this year, Dhiraagu entered into a contract with a consortium of 13 global telecom and tech companies to connect Maldives directly to key Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) and Data Centres (DCs) across South Asia and Europe to provide high-speed internet with superior quality for the nation.

As part of the project, Dhiraagu is making necessary arrangements for the Maldives branch of the cable to  land in a new cable station at Hulhumale’. A special ceremony was held yesterday at HDC Building where CEO & MD of Dhiraagu Mr. Ismail Rasheed and Managing Director of HDC Mr. Suhail Ahmed signed the agreement of the lease land for the landing station.  

This 19,200 km state-of-the-art submarine cable system is planned to connect Maldives directly to the global  hubs in South East Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe at eleven countries from Singapore to France  and is expected to be completed by Q1 2025. 

This is a significant investment by Dhiraagu to connect its network to key destinations across the world from  Europe through Middle East, India to Singapore, which will significantly strengthen the Maldives’ international connectivity, improve the price, quality and resilience of its services to consumers, businesses, and fuel future  growth of digital services across the country. Additionally, it positions the company to further explore the  potentials of emerging technologies such as 5G, and the use of artificial intelligence and AR advances for its businesses, gamers and more.
