After a meeting held last Friday, September 22, 2023, during the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Khaleel, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, and H.E. Dr. Amir-Abdollahian, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, came together to reaffirm their commitment to restoring diplomatic relations.
This decision is in line with the interests and aspirations of their respective populations.

The two governments have reached an agreement to enhance their friendly relations, grounded in principles such as mutual respect for sovereignty, equality, mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.
Both nations have expressed their determination to strengthen cooperation across various domains, including investment, trade, facilitation of travel and people-to-people exchanges, as well as collaboration in science and technological innovation.
