Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed announced the resumption of the integrated development project in the northernmost Ihavandhippolhu and the commercial port near L. Gaadhoo. These initiatives were initially launched during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen’s government. The minister shared this information on X, formerly known as Twitter, and added that the Male commercial port project will also resume, with further details to be disclosed shortly.
In a related development, the i-Havan project, introduced by then President Yameen at the 2014 Investment Forum in Singapore, aims to establish a trading and business hub in the northernmost Haa Alif atoll. This hub, designed as an “entrepot,” is part of a broader integrated project in the atoll.
During Yameen’s administration, plans were unveiled for the construction of a transhipment port in Gaadhoo. As part of this initiative, residents of Gaadhoo were relocated to Funadhoo island in the atoll.
Furthermore, there is an ongoing project to relocate Male’ commercial port to Gulhifalhu.
