The Maldives is seeking closer economic ties with Saudi Arabia, with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu expressing hope for Saudi investment in major development initiatives.
In separate letters marking Saudi Arabia’s National Day, the President conveyed his greetings to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. He described Saudi Arabia as a longstanding partner and said the two countries’ relationship continued to grow through cooperation and shared Islamic values.
The investment appeal follows discussions in July between President Dr Muizzu and a visiting Saudi representative on expanding cooperation in trade and investment. The National Day messages did not identify specific projects or new commitments.
President Dr Muizzu said he hoped the partnership would create further opportunities that benefit people in both countries. He also conveyed his wishes to the Saudi leadership and people in the letters and a post on X.
