Eight Countries Discuss Expanded Cooperation with Maldives as Envoys Meet President
- President Muizzu received Letters of Credence from envoys of Namibia, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Qatar, Fiji, Kosovo, Somalia and Slovenia.
- Discussions spanned tourism, trade, investment, health, education, climate change, infrastructure and regional security.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met representatives of Namibia, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Qatar, Fiji, Kosovo, Somalia and Slovenia today as the envoys presented their Letters of Credence at separate ceremonies held at the President’s Office.
The meetings covered a range of areas of mutual interest, including tourism, trade and investment, health, education, climate change, environmental protection, infrastructure and regional security.
Namibia: Tourism, Fisheries and Investment
High Commissioner Alex L. Tukuhupwele of Namibia discussed tourism cooperation, trade and investment, fisheries, health sector development and the exchange of expertise with President Muizzu.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Dominican Republic: Environment and Blue Economy
Non-Resident Ambassador Francisco Manuel Comprés Hernández of the Dominican Republic discussed cooperation in environmental protection and the blue economy.
The two sides highlighted their shared priorities as Small Island Developing States and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Cuba: Health, Education and Sports
Non-Resident Ambassador Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra of Cuba discussed health sector development, higher education, training programmes and sports cooperation, particularly volleyball.
The ambassador also expressed appreciation for the Maldives’ continued support at the United Nations.
Qatar: Economic Cooperation and Investment
Ambassador Hamad Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sanad Al-Dosari of Qatar discussed economic and tourism cooperation, infrastructure development, financial support and investment.
President Muizzu highlighted his recent visit to Qatar and the close relationship between the two countries.
Fiji: Climate Action and Sustainable Development
High Commissioner Jagannath Sami of Fiji discussed cooperation in tourism, climate action and sustainable development.
The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to working together for mutual benefit and strengthening cooperation in regional and international forums.
Kosovo: Education and Youth Development
Non-Resident Ambassador Lulzim Pllana of Kosovo discussed expanding cooperation in education, youth development, tourism and trade.
President Muizzu expressed appreciation for scholarships extended by the Kosovan government. The two sides also discussed translating bilateral cooperation into tangible and sustainable outcomes.
Somalia: Indian Ocean Peace and Security
Non-Resident Ambassador Dr Abdullahi Mohammed Odowa of Somalia discussed ways to expand bilateral cooperation with President Muizzu.
They also exchanged views on promoting peace and security in the Indian Ocean and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Slovenia: Tourism, Climate and Environment
Ambassador Tomaž Mencin of Slovenia discussed tourism, climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development with President Muizzu.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations.
The representatives were escorted to the President’s Office in traditional Haiykolhu cultural processions accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force Drum and Trumpet Band.
