The Maldives has appointed Uza Fathimath Dhiyana as its Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union, placing an experienced former minister and regional official in a key diplomatic post in Europe.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu presented Dhiyana with her letter of appointment during a ceremony at the President’s Office on Sunday.
Dhiyana has held several senior roles across Maldivian public service and regional institutions. She previously served as Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, Minister of Gender, Family and Human Rights, Attorney General, and a Member of both the People’s Majlis and the People’s Special Majlis.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania, a Master of Laws in Law and Political Science from Osaka University, and a Master of Laws in International Human Rights Law from the University of Leicester.
The Brussels-based posting covers relations with Belgium as well as engagement with European Union institutions, which remain important partners for the Maldives in areas including trade, development cooperation, climate policy and governance.
