Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has met the Tourism Minister of Bulgaria, Dr. Stella Baltova, today.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of Tourism today, both the Ministers discussed ways to further strengthen and enhance the existing bilateral relations and exploring opportunities to widen cooperation in the tourism sector between the two countries. Foreign Minister Shahid noted the increase in tourists arriving from Bulgaria to the Maldives and expressed hope to see further promotion of Maldivian tourism in Bulgaria and to see even more tourists from Bulgaria arriving in the Maldives.
Both Ministers discussed the measures taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the two countries and noted the importance of strong and comprehensive policies in addressing the pandemic.
Foreign Minister Shahid also briefed the Minister on his priorities for his Presidency of Hope as the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, noting that it was important for countries to come together to find a way out of the pandemic.
Minister Baltova noted the importance of increasing connectivity for the promotion of tourism and expressed hope to see more transport connections between Bulgaria and the Maldives and discussed further avenues for promotion of tourism cooperation between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Shahid was accompanied by High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom, Dr. Farahanaz Faizal and Third Secretary at the High Commission of Maldives in the United Kingdom, Mariyam Afnaan.
