At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Moosa Zameer, has commenced an official visit to China from 19 to 24 July 2024.
The primary objective of Minister Zameer’s visit is to review the progress following President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s State Visit to China earlier this year in January. Key areas of bilateral interest will also be addressed during this visit. The Minister is set to hold official talks with his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Wang Yi, aiming to further strengthen the historic and close ties between the Maldives and China.
In addition to the talks with Minister Wang Yi, Minister Zameer will meet with senior Chinese government officials. These discussions are anticipated to focus on enhancing cooperation in various sectors that have significantly contributed to the economic development of the Maldives.
A notable aspect of the visit includes Minister Zameer’s engagements with prominent Chinese companies. These firms have been instrumental in the development projects within the Maldives, and the discussions will explore avenues for continued and enhanced cooperation.
Accompanying Minister Zameer on this visit is Dr Mohamed Shafeeq, Minister of Finance, and Dr Abdulla Muthalib, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, along with senior officials from the Government of Maldives.
This visit highlights the importance of Maldives-China relations and aims to build upon the outcomes of previous high-level engagements, fostering stronger economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
