Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, on Thursday, held a meeting with the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications of Bulgaria, Georgi Todorov.
At the discussions held at the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications of Bulgaria, both Ministers discussed the importance of improving information and communication networks and transport networks in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Foreign Minister Shahid highlighted the importance of strong and reliable information and communication networks for the implementation of the Government’s decentralisation policies.
The Ministers also noted the increasing number of tourist arrivals from Bulgaria to the Maldives and discussed avenues for further increasing transport links for stronger people-to-people connections between the two countries.
Minister Todorov was accompanied by senior officials of the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communication of Bulgaria.
Foreign Minister Shahid also held a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Economy of Bulgaria, Kalina Konstantinova on Thursday afternoon.
At the meeting held at the Ministry of Economy, discussions were held on further enhancing economic and trade ties between the two countries, including exporting Maldivian fish products to Bulgaria.
Deputy Minister Konstantinova was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria Zaritsa Dinkova and senior officials of the Ministry of Economy of Bulgaria.
Minister Shahid was accompanied by High Commissioner of Maldives to the United Kingdom, Dr. Farahanaz Faizal, and the Third Secretary at the High Commission of Maldives to the United Kingdom, Mariyam Afnaan.
