George Corbin and His Daughter Receive the First Gold Tier of Maldives Border Miles

George Corbin, one of the pioneers of tourism in the Maldives, and his daughter Georgia Corbin, the first child tourist to the Maldives, receives the very first Abaarana (Gold) Tier of the world’s first destination loyalty program, the Maldives Border Miles.

The prestigious Abaarana Tier was presented to them by the Minister of Health, Honorable Ahmed Naseem, during an exclusive event held at the VIP Lounge of the Velana International Airport. Honorable Minister was the person Mr. Corbin met at the Maldives Embassy in Sri Lanka during 1971 and they later worked together to introduce tourism in the Maldives. George Corbin was an Italy based diving tour operator then and has greatly contributed to the tourism industry ever since.

George Corbin and his daughter arrived the Maldives on 15th February 2022, to participate in some of the celebratory events to mark the Golden Jubilee of the tourism in the Maldives. It was on 16th February 1972, Mr. Corbin brought the first group of tourists to the Maldives, mainly journalists and divers. They all were fascinated by the untouched natural beauty of the Maldives, the archipelago of the scattered islands and the wonder underneath the sea.
