Sri Lankan government has announced that the residence visa needed by Immigrants in order to work and live in Sri Lanka, can be received from their respective native countries.
Following this announcement, Maldives Foreign Ministry have also stated that Maldivians can obtain their residence visas from the Sri Lankan embassy in Maldives. The new visa policy will be taken into action from 15th may 2019. However there will be no immediate effect to the Maldivians who currently living in Lanka, and they can make the new visa in Maldives when their current visa expires.
These changes are being brought after the recent series of terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka in order to strengthen security in Sri Lanka.
