Government of Japan Pledges Grant Worth USD 174,230 for K. Himmafushi Health Centre

The Grant Contract for “The Project for Upgrading of Himmafushi Health Centre in Himmafushi Island, Kaafu Atoll’’ under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects scheme was signed between Her Excellency Mrs. Midori Takeuchi, Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, and Mr. Abdulla Shafeeu, Senior Administrator, Health Services of K.Himmafushi Health Centre at a ceremony held on 8th November at the Ministry of Health.

Under the terms of the Grant Contract, the Government of Japan has committed a grant of One hundred and seventy-four thousand two hundred and thirty US Dollars (174,230USD), (equivalent to Maldivian Rufiyaa 2.6 million) for the development of new facilities which include an emergency room, laboratory, X-ray room, and 2 consultation rooms.

With the implementation of this project, the Health Centre will be able to provide basic Laboratory and Radiology services for the residents in Himmafushi. The Ministry of Health and Himmafushi Council complements this project by covering the cost of all necessary equipment and furniture upon completion of the construction.

The GGP is part of the Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) implemented by the Embassy of Japan in Maldives in order to empower people at the grassroots level. Since 1996, the GGP has been implemented in broad areas such as education, environment, health, transportation and energy in order to contribute to sustainable development of the Maldives.
