For the year 2018, the government of Maldives has proposed a national budget of MVR 28 billion.
While unveiling the proposed 2018 national budget to the parliament, Minister of Finance and treasury Mr Ahmed Munawar stated that for 2018 MVR 24.9 billion is expected to be spent while MVR 22.4 billion is expected to be earned by the country. He also said that the 2018 budget deficit is MVR 2.5 billion, which is 3.2% in terms of GDP.
According to Mr Munawar, the focal point of the budget is various development projects that will be undertaken by the government.
He also highlighted that the national debt of Maldives is expected to reach MVR 43 billion this year, due to the ongoing development and project funding.
Projected GDP for 2018 is USD 10000 per capita and the economic growth rate is expected to be at 6.8 percent.
