The government has unveiled a new initiative to bolster the number of professional chartered accountants in the Maldives by offering 100 scholarships through the “Professional Accountants Training Scholarship Scheme 2024.”
These scholarships are divided into two categories: the public category and the open category. The public category consists of 50 scholarships designated for employees of state institutions. The open category, on the other hand, offers 50 scholarships to individuals working in private institutions and those currently unemployed.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development stated that the scholarships cover training at various levels, including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) skills level and professional level, as well as the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) management level and strategic level.
To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Fulfil the entry requirements for the ACCA skills or professional level.
2. Fulfil the entry requirements for the CIMA management or strategic level.
3. Consistently repay any existing student loans from the Ministry or the former Higher Education Department without default.
4. Apply for a course of a higher level than any currently completed courses and not be a student currently studying a course of the same level on state expenses.
Applications must be submitted by 13:00 hrs on Wednesday, 31st July.
This initiative aims to enhance the professional capacity of accountants in the Maldives, ensuring a stronger, more skilled workforce in the financial sector.
