Govt Expenditure Rises to MVR 5.9 Billion, Earnings at MVR 4 Billion

Statistics released by the Ministry of Finance have revealed that government expenditure within the first 12 weeks of 2021 has risen to MVR 5.9 billion. 

According to the Weekly Development Reports published by the Ministry, the government earned MVR 4 billion as revenue during the same period. Taxes accounted for most of the revenue with MVR 3.3 billion while non-tax income stood at MVR 741 million.

The wages and salaries of state employees accounted for a major proportion of state expenditure during this period, standing at MVR 2.2 billion. The current expenditure of the state was at MVR 15 million while MVR 840 million was spent on subsidies and amenities. The figure includes MVR 330.9 million spent for the Aasandha healthcare scheme.

Loan repayments stood at MVR 237.6 million.

As for tax earnings, the government earned MVR 1.7 billion through GST, and MVR 1 billion through BPT. The state also earned MVR 37 million through fines.
