Gov’t Introduces Additional Centres for Foreign Worker Biometric Updates

The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology has announced the establishment of additional service points aimed at assisting foreign workers in updating their biometric data, as part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with national regulations.

The Ministry confirmed yesterday that new biometric update desks will be available at several strategic locations, including Kalaafaanu School, Malé, starting immediately. This facility will operate daily from 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM, alongside an additional slot from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

A further biometric updating service has commenced operations at Rehendhi School in Hulhumalé Phase 1. This service, also scheduled from 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM, will not be available on Fridays. Additionally, a dedicated desk at North Harbour has been set up, offering similar evening services from 9:30 PM to 12:30 AM, again excluding Fridays.

These new desks form part of the second phase of the government’s broader initiative, initially launched under the name “Operation Kurangi.” The operation, led by the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, began last month and was the initial stage aimed at systematically verifying that all immigrant workers meet the required legal standards through biometric registration.

The Ministry urges employers and workers to utilise these desks promptly to update biometric data, emphasising that employer cooperation is essential for the success of the initiative. The goal is full compliance, ensuring greater accountability among foreign workers in the Maldives.
