The Maldives aims to digitise all land transport services by the end of August as part of broader efforts to modernise public service delivery, Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has said.
Responding to questions in Parliament, Minister Saeed said applications for land transport services are already available online 24 hours a day. He added that the ministry is working with OneGov to introduce a more advanced digital platform to improve efficiency and public access.
According to the minister, the new system is designed to provide a long-term solution to challenges faced by users when accessing land transport services. He said the government expects to complete the transition of all land transport services to the digital platform before the end of August.
Minister Saeed also provided an update on the expansion of the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry network, describing it as a key component of the government’s nationwide transport strategy.
He said the government remains on track to connect all inhabited islands to the RTL network before the end of January next year.
Currently, RTL services operate across 15 atolls using 35 high-speed launches, while services have yet to commence in the remaining five atolls.
The digitisation of land transport services forms part of the government’s wider digital transformation agenda, which aims to streamline public services and improve accessibility through integrated online platforms.
