Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Issues Notice Regarding Dormant Accounts

Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Male’ has issued a public notice regarding accounts that have remained inactive for a period exceeding five years. In accordance with Section 35 of the Maldives Banking Act (Law No. 24/2010), the bank states it has made regular attempts to contact account holders through periodic statements and registered mail, without receiving a response.

The notice urges inactive account holders to visit HBL Male’ within 60 days of the publication in the Official Government Gazette, providing valid identification documents or passport copies. This action is necessary to reactivate the accounts.

Failure to comply within the 60-day timeframe will result in the automatic closure of the inactive accounts. Any remaining balances will be transferred to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), in line with Section 35 of the Maldives Banking Act. Additionally, all associated cheque leaves and standing instructions will be cancelled upon account closure.
