Businesses selling hazardous chemicals have until 27 October to secure sales permits and register their storage facilities, after the Ministry of Defence extended the deadline in response to low compliance.
The ministry said far fewer businesses had applied for permits than were registered to sell chemicals. The previous deadline for applications through the Makudi Portal had expired.
The extension gives businesses another month to obtain the required permits and register the facilities where they keep hazardous chemicals.
The ministry warned that businesses continuing to sell without the required sales and storage permits after 27 October would face action under the hazardous chemicals regulations. Those that fail to comply will also no longer receive permits to import hazardous chemicals into the Maldives.
