The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development has commenced a survey to identify essential skills required by the current job market in Maldives. Data collection for the National Human Capital Needs Assessment Survey has begun under the World Bank’s Sustainable and Integrated Labour Services (SAILS) umbrella.
The primary objective of this survey, as highlighted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, is to bridge the gap between the skill sets imparted by training agencies and educational institutes and the actual requirements of employers in the Maldivian job market.
FJS Consulting Pvt Ltd has been tasked with the practical implementation of this survey.
According to the Ministry, active participation from individuals of working age, employees, employers, and representatives from higher education and skills development institutions across the Maldives is crucial for the success and effectiveness of this initiative.
On July 4, 2022, the Maldives and the World Bank signed an MoU whereby the World Bank granted USD 24 million (MVR 370 million) to the Maldives to provide crucial assistance and insurance to address the challenges faced by workers.
