Hulhule Island Hotel has marked 25 years of operations, having developed from the Maldives’ first transit hotel at its main international airport into a property serving travellers, corporate clients and the local community.
The hotel opened on 15 August 2001 with 85 rooms. It expanded in 2008 with the addition of 51 rooms, bringing its total inventory to 136 rooms and broadening its accommodation offering for international, domestic and corporate travellers.
Located minutes from Velana International Airport, Hulhule Island Hotel has become a regular arrival and departure point for visitors to the Maldives. The property also hosts business meetings, conferences, celebrations and community events.
The hotel describes itself as the Maldives’ only airport-island resort. Its facilities include a private beach, dining venues, wellness and recreational facilities, and meeting and event spaces. Its food and beverage outlets include Uduvilaa, Faru Coffee House, the Poolside and Champs.
Hulhule Island Hotel was named World’s Leading Airport Resort at the World Travel Awards in 2025 for the 14th consecutive year. The property also received the Gold Award for South Asia’s Leading Airport Hotel at the South Asian Travel Awards 2025.
Ali Shakir, Group General Manager of Maldives Inflight Catering Group, said the anniversary reflects the contribution of the hotel’s team members as well as the support received from guests, partners and the wider community. He said the hotel intends to further develop its guest experiences and invest in its people as it enters its next phase.
Hawwa Fareesha, Hotel Manager of Hulhule Island Hotel, said the milestone belongs to the team members who have contributed to the hotel over the past 25 years. She said their work has shaped the service culture and sense of connection associated with the property.
The hotel said it will continue to focus on service standards, talent development and innovation as it builds on its role within the Maldivian hospitality sector.
