Hussain Shafeeq Named CEO, Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited

Hussain Shafeeq has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), marking another leadership transition at the state-owned enterprise during the current administration.

The appointment, confirmed by the Privatization and Corporatization Board, also places Shafeeq on the company’s Board of Directors. The change took effect on Wednesday.

The latest development represents the third change in leadership at MPL since the current administration took office. Wajeeh Ibrahim, who was initially appointed to the role in late November 2023, was removed from the position in February the following year. Mohamed Rishwan, formerly Chief Executive Officer of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, was then appointed to lead MPL within the same month.

Rishwan’s tenure ended earlier this month after he stepped down from the role. His resignation, formally submitted on April 6, came amid a broader pattern of changes across state-owned enterprises, following the government’s defeat in the recent local council elections and referendum.

The appointment of Shafeeq introduces a new phase of leadership at MPL as the company continues operations under a period of recurring executive changes.
