Japan Donates Equipment and Vehicles to Maldives Customs Service to Strengthen Border Control

Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Her Excellency Mrs Takeuchi Midori formally handed over equipment and vehicles to the Minister of Defence, Her Excellency Uza. Mariya Ahmed Didi and Commissioner General of Maldives Customs Service, Mr Abdulla Shareef at a ceremony held in Maldives Customs Service today.

Equipment and Vehicles handed over includes:

  • 1 Toyota Van
  • 1 Toyota Wagon
  • 2 Mazda Sedan Car
  • 2 Spare part of Vehicles
  • 8 Handy-type Raman spectrometer
  • 4 Counterfeit Bill Detector
  • 2 Mobile x-ray scanners
  • 3 Spare parts of equipment
  • 1 lot Spare parts (Mazda)
  • 1 box and 1 pallet spare parts of vehicle

This set of equipment and vehicles is donated in line with the Exchange of Notes signed between the Government of Japan and the Government of Maldives in May 2020 under the Economic and Social Development Programme. The grant in value of five hundred million Japanese Yen (¥ 500,000,000), which is approximately USD 4.68 million and Maldivian Rufiyya 72.6 million, was committed to strengthen the capacity and capability of the Maldives Customs Service and Maldives Immigration to bolster operational readiness and strengthen border control in efforts towards public safety and protection.

The Government of Japan expressed its hope that the grant assistance will greatly enhance public safety and security in the Maldives, thereby contributing to secure economic and social development.
