Maldives has yet again achieved a brand new goal in the industry by introducing the country’s first ever skating rink. Jumeirah Vittaveli has introduced guests to a brand new experience during their island vacation.
The first of its kind in the Maldives, Jumeirah unveiled the skating rink on 20th March, at a special ceremony held at the resort. The skating rink was inaugurated by decorated Russian ice skater and four times Olympic gold medal winner, Evgeni Plushenko.
Plushenko was the first person to ice skate in the Maldives. “I am very honoured to have received this opportunity to ice skate in the Maldives. This is the first time in my career that I have ice skated in such a beautiful and natural environment, this is a truly unique experience for me”, the gold medalist stated after his experience.
Plushenko also explained that although the ice used in the skating rink is artificial, the rink is of extremely good quality and that the experience of ice skating in a destination like Maldives is like no other.
The ice skating rink is made using synthetic ice which is made by plastic, by a company called Glice, a leading Swiss company.
Jumeirah Vittaveli has equipped the rink with the best safety features and has hired experts to teach those guests who wish to undertake training. Amit Majumder, General Manager of Jumeirah Vittaveli stated that the resort will conduct training programs as well.
The resort, operated by Dubai’s Jumeirah Group, is equipped with six ocean suites and 43 beach villas which include a private pool.
The most special feature about Jumeirah Vittaveli is their recently opened Royal Residence, which can accommodate fourteen guests.
