Maafaru International Airport Operator Seeks Partner for Hotel Development

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), the operator of the Maldives’ Maafaru International Airport, has announced a tender process to select a developer for a 50-room airport hotel. The company has welcomed expressions of interest from both domestic and international firms.

The project aligns with the operator’s goals of enhancing customer service and bolstering the airport’s economic viability. IASL emphasised its interest in proposals that offer mutually beneficial outcomes for the company and its chosen partner.

Selection criteria will prioritise alignment with the company’s strategic objectives, demonstrated experience in similar hospitality projects, and robust financial and operational capabilities. The deadline for expressions of interest has been set for April 21st.

The designated site for the airport hotel covers 4,000 square feet on the eastern side of Maafaru Airport. The Maldives’ second-largest airport, Maafaru International Airport, currently logs an average of 700 air traffic movements annually.

Constructed with a USD 60 million investment from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the airport features a 2,300-meter runway accommodating A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft. The Maldivian government has committed to further developing Maafaru International with future runway expansions to facilitate the landing of larger Boeing 777 twin-jet aircraft.
