Ha. Maafinolhu airport, which was to be developed under the governance of Former President Abdulla Yameen, has now been shifted so as to no longer develop it in Maafinolhu but rather in Haa Alif Hoarafushi.
The project was relocated in order to save greenery from the more green islands of Maldives. Any project which depletes greenery from such islands are not supported, stated CEO of MTCC, Mr. Hassan Shah as per a decision made by the Honorable President of Maldives, Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Hoarafushi is an artificially reclaimed island which would further be expanded for the development of the airport and MTCC is in a discussion in collaboration Ministry of Planning through Regional Airports, as per Mr. Shah.
