The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has yesterday fined the developers of Adh. Maafushivaru about MVR 400,000 for failing to comply with the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for resort development.
As per information in the Tourism Ministry’s database, the resort is operated by Paradise Resorts Development & Management Private Limited.
According to the EPA, the resort was penalized because some of the resort’s activities breached the EIA report. However, the statement released by EPA did not disclose any details of the activities carried out in Maafushivaru that resulted in the fine.
Lti Maafushivaru, located in the southern tip of Ari Atoll is only a 25-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport. The resort was reopened in 2020, after being closed for renovations.
